The customer review period

Between the day your notice is mailed and the complaint deadline printed on it, you can simply ring the City and ask them to look at it again. It costs nothing and it does not need a hearing.

What it is

A window in which the City's assessment staff will review your property with you, outside the formal complaint process. No fee, no form, no board. If they agree the record is wrong, they can correct it.

For the 2026 roll, notices were mailed 2026-01-14 and the period ran to 2026-03-23.

What to have in front of you

• Your roll number, off the notice.
• The characteristics the City has on record for your property. Lot size, year built, property sub-type. These are public and you can check them.
• Anything about your property the City would have no way of knowing. An unfinished basement, a structural problem, work that was never done, a road or a rail line behind you.
• What you paid, if you bought recently, and the date.

What to lead with

Lead with the record, not the value. "My lot is recorded as 8,000 square feet and it is 5,000" is a fact an assessor can check and correct in an afternoon. "My assessment feels too high" is not something anyone can act on.

Ask the assessor to confirm what they have on file. Write down their name and the date. If they agree to a correction, ask for it in writing.

File the complaint anyway

This is the part that catches people. The customer review period does not pause the complaint deadline. If the review is still going on when the deadline passes, you have lost the right to complain for that year, whatever the assessor said on the phone.

File before the deadline as a backstop, then withdraw if the assessor fixes it. A complaint withdrawn on agreement with the assessor to correct the matter has its filing fee refunded.
